Tips for Life in the New Normal During the COVID-19 Pandemic

May 14, 2020

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to increase worldwide, including in Indonesia. At time of writing, Indonesia has more than 33,000 cases of confirmed cases. There are still no signs that the pandemic is slowing down, despite the government’s efforts to curb its spread, such as imposing large-scale social restrictions, expanded PCR testing, and construction of emergency hospitals.

While the transmission rate remains high – in fact, some provinces are reporting steep increases – the Indonesian government has begun to gradually ease the large-scale social restrictions and transitioning to a framework called the New Normal. This was not a decision taken lightly, since an undesired effect of such restrictions is economic collapse leading to disastrous consequences.

What does the New Normal mean to everyone? The New Normal is a behavioural shift that allows normal life to resume, with health protocols observed, to minimise transmission of COVID-19. The goal is to enable the public to be productive as usual while being protected from possible infections.

Here are some tips to carry on life in the age of the New Normal.

  1. Come to terms with the current situation
First and foremost, you have to make peace with the current pandemic. By accepting that a given situation is inevitable, you are more likely to adapt and adjust to new things. For example, you can use technology to navigate the New Normal and adopt new routines, especially in terms of personal hygiene.
  2. Be aware of your own safety and your loved ones
Pay close attention to the government’s health protocols, which are designed to allow everyone to carry out their activities while preventing further COVID-19 transmission to others. If nothing else, you should observe the protocols for your own good and for your own loved ones. Followed closely, you are helping to minimise the spread of the COVID-19.
  3. Wear personal protective equipment if you are leaving your home
Wear personal protective equipment if you’re leaving home. When you are leaving for work or shopping for groceries, you should wear a long-sleeved jacket, face mask, and carry hand sanitizers or liquid soap. In addition, always wash your hands regularly while you’re outside. Once you arrive home, shower and change into clean clothes.
  4. Maintain your distance in public spaces
The large-scale social restrictions being eased is not a free pass to meet others. Maintaining your physical distance from others is still important. It is neither easy nor is it customary, but you should maintain some distance from your friends and colleagues for the common good. Avoid potential crowded hotspots, such as malls and shopping centres, if it’s not urgent or necessary. Again, always wash your hands regularly while you’re outside and shower once you’re home. Change into clean clothes afterwards.
  5. Look after your health
A good immune system is required during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Your health can receive a boost through adequate rest, regular exercise, and eating healthy food, such as vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and antioxidants. For an added boost, you can supplement with Imuco.
Imuco is made using Echinacea dry extract (coneflower) and zinc that are believed to boost the immune system. In addition, Echinacea has anti-viral, anti-inflammation, and anti-oxidant properties. Imuco is available as syrup and tablets. For children above 5 years old, the syrup dosage form is taken once per day using the included dosage spoon. Adults can take the syrup dosage form 3 times a day using the included dosage spoon or 1 tablet per day.

If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, immediately contact your nearest clinic or doctor.
