PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk is committed to using new renewable energy (Energi Baru Terbarukan, “EBT”) in its operations.
The commitment was marked by signing of the MoU between Sido Muncul and Perusahaan Listrik Negara (“PLN”) for the supply and use of EBT. The ceremony took place at the Sido Muncul Agritourism Area, Semarang on Wednesday, 26 October 2022.
Sido Muncul Director Irwan Hidayat said that the use of EBT demonstrates the Company’s care for the environment, despite costing 3% higher than industrial electricity.
“The use of EBT costs 3% higher than industrial electricity. We are committed to using EBT to support the government’s effort to reduce carbon emissions, conserve the environment, and become an environmentally friendly green industry,” said Irwan.
Thanks to the use of EBT, Sido Muncul received a certificate from PLN as The First National Customer in the Herbal Medicine Company Category Receiving Renewable Energy Certificate (“REC”).
REC is PLN's green product innovation that makes it easier for customers to earn recognition for transparent and accountable use of EBT without having to invest costs for infrastructure development.
Currently, 100% of the electricity source purchased by the Company from PLN is generated using REC. Irwan added that after using REC, the Company’s green energy source is currently at 95%. That includes 84% of EBT, consisting of biomass from herbal waste and wood chips (51%), solar power plant (2%), and REC (31%); and 11% of natural gas. The remaining 5% is from fossil fuels.
The Company also operates rooftop solar panels at its factory. The solar panel is also one of the Company’s efforts in providing and using EBT as well as achieving its targets in reducing carbon emissions.
